5 Steps to Build Your Credit Union Cloud: Getting There Is Easier When You Build A Plan

Credit Union cloudIf you believe your Credit Unions should be focused on key member facing technologies and key technology driven by the business – then building your Credit Union cloud might be for you. If however, your Credit Union likes controlling everything and building their own servers – than cloud probably isn’t a good option for your Credit Union.

There are five ways Credit Unions map out the move to cloud:

• Move to Managed Telecom
• Move to Managed Security (integrated locally and offsite)
• Move to Managed Disaster Recovery (offsite)
• Move to Hosted Servers
• Move to Service Bureau (core)

In general we find that Credit Unions must first look at their total cost of ownership of most of the components to determine where they can gain efficiencies as well as improve service before implementing a Credit Union cloud. Once they review their depreciation schedules and service agreements – a clear path emerges for what to tackle first. If you have decided to move to the cloud then you must evaluate each of the above phases together to ensure that they work well together and that when they are deployed in aggregate – that they actually save time and money.

Some of the key integration points that you should evaluate include:

• Ensuring that your anti-virus, local desktop tools, and technology management systems work with both your local and cloud hosted components
• Ensuring that your telecom has the built-in redundancy to get to your new production environment and its backup environment
• Review the Hosting Platform to validate it has the appropriate redundancy at a local and geographic level
• Validate that your cloud provider can easily connect and deploy core applications (service bureau or otherwise)
• Validate that your SLA’s cover the choke points between the various providers if you chose to pick multiple providers

In our next series of posts we will take a deeper dive into each step/phase to help you start this important transition for your Credit Union. Need help now? Reach out using the form on this page and an OGO solutions engineer will be glad to help out!
