How To Add Trusted Sites To Your Browser Configuration [Tech Tip]

Trusted SitesToday's Credit Union CIO's are extra careful with security settings in their infrastructure and often lock down configuration parameters so that many sites are blocked unless authorized. With the increase of internet based services, end users have had to become familiar with the concept of a "trusted host". These are sites that you are essentially vouching for and are allowed to work as designed.

The following steps can be taken to add a site to your trusted host list. If the options are grayed out at your Credit Union, you will need to go through your IT department to make the changes.

Add Trusted Sites for Internet Explorer IE

In order to properly connect to Cloudworks, it is necessary to have https://*.cloudworks.com added to Trusted Sites.

To do this in IE, go to:

  1. "Internet Options"
  2. Click on the "Security" Tab
  3. Click the "Trusted Sites" icon,
  4.  Click the "Sites" button
  5.  Add the site: https://*.cloudworks.com

Add Trusted Sites for Mozilla Firefox

FireFox has a similar feature called "Exceptions..." .

  1. In Firefox go to the Open Menu (Upper right 3 lines)
  2. Locate and select the "Security" tab.
  3. Click on the "Exceptions..." button.
  4.  Next type in the internet address you would like to remain trusted EX: *.cloudworks.com
  5. Click "Close" then "OK" to complete this action.

Keeping the infrastructure secure requires many tools including hardware and software, but the first line of defense is always YOU! Make sure you are coordinating ANY changes to your desktop with your IT department.

Newer versions of Firefox do not have the same concept, they break different functions out.

  1. In Firefox go to the Open Menu (Upper right 3 lines)
  2. Click on "Options"
  3. On the left side of the screen, click "Privacy and Security" .
  4. Locate the "Content Blocking" section and Click on the “Exceptions…” button.
  5. Next type in the internet address you would like to remain trusted EX: *.cloudworks.com
  6. Click “Allow” then “Save Changes” to complete this action.
  7. Repeat for the "Warn you when websites try to install add-ons" and "Block pop-up windows section" section
