Can I work from Anywhere with Hosted Virtual Desktop? – Part 1
Are you wondering if there are mobility limitations are of Hosted Virtual Desktop? This post is for you.
The Big Question: Can I work From Anywhere With Hosted Virtual Desktop?
The short answer is yes, there there are a couple caveats to that. A better question is, “What do I need to work from anywhere on Hosted Virtual Desktop?”
Now that we have asked the right question, here is a general answer: an internet connection and some kind of device that can run the Citrix Receiver Application.
Those two things are always all you need to access your hosted virtual desktop, but you may need additional devices to get those things.
What about at my house?
Do you have internet at your house? A computer or tablet? You should be good to go. Even on slower connections today, the connection is strong enough to maintain a high-quality hosted virtual desktop session.
What about in a hotel room?
A hotel room should be more simple than most, if you have a quality internet connection. We have all been stuck in hotel rooms with great internet connections, and those that are not so good.
Some hotels offer almost the minimum amount of bandwidth as they do not want their guests to eat it up by streaming movies or other high draw activities. These slower connections are not ideal as hosted virtual desktop needs a reasonably jitter-free connection to perform optimally. Not to say you would be able to get things done, but it would be ideal. A good tool to have hand in this case is a 4G/3G hotspot. If you are in a place with no cellular service, bad internet, and no other way to contact the outside world, you might consider getting back in your car and driving down the road.
